DIRECTOR OF BVSA · FOUNDER, SCOUTED SPORTS

ANTHONY CONTE

Started catching at 8. Volunteering at facilities by 12. With BVSA since day one.

Anthony hopped behind the plate at 8 years old. Immediately he fell in love with all that came with catching and it was on from there. He was a catcher for Trinity Catholic High School, but that’s only 1/10th of the story. He has been with BVSA since 2006 and has created his own narrative that eclipses his playing career tenfold.

Anthony started volunteering at indoor baseball facilities at 12 years old. It was a no-brainer after realizing he could get his training done, even though he couldn’t afford regular lessons. In his words: "I needed a lot more work than I could afford."

So many things lined up for BVSA and Anthony to cross paths. Being an Italian baseball player in Stamford, he was a big fan of Bobby Valentine. He had frequented his sports bar and restaurant as a kid and met Bobby many times. In the fall of 2006, his friends Bobby Schoenherr and John O’Leary needed a bullpen catcher for their lessons. They were training with BVSA’s then pitching coach, Mark Lacerenza. Before long, Anthony and Mark were doing 30–35 hours a week of pitching lessons. Mark taught Anthony firsthand about the NPA and Tom House’s ideologies.

"Teach a person how to fish instead of just handing them one. It was exactly how my dad raised us, so it made sense." — Anthony on the BVSA curriculum

He is the definition of what makes BVSA’s curriculum and training program so incredible. Passion for education and imparting knowledge and respect onto every player he encounters. Anthony graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2014 with a degree in Psychology.

Anthony founded Scouted Sports — a service for players of all skill levels looking to play in college or beyond. He was also the Varsity Baseball Coach at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan for 7 seasons. When he is not coaching or working, Anthony enjoys spending time with his wife Susan, son Mario James, daughter Riley Ward, pit bull Nahla, and his big, local Italian family.

TEACH TO FISH

Anthony’s coaching philosophy comes from his father and the BVSA curriculum: teach the process, not just the drill. Athletes who understand the "why" develop faster.

🧠

MENTAL + PHYSICAL

A UConn Psychology degree isn’t just a diploma — Anthony brings the mental side of development into every session. Progress is measured in confidence, not just stats.
